UK Status

Resident. A widespread but very local species found throughout the British Isles.

Montgomeryshire Status

First recorded in 2013 at Commins Coch in the west of the county. This is only the fifth record to be recorded in north Wales.

Wingspan :   M & F 20-23mm.

Confusion species

Hellinsia ostoedactyla and Hellinsia chrysocomae.
Flight time & Voltinity (Univoltine)

Habitat

Mature woodland and undisturbed cliffs.

Foodplant

Goldenrod.

Lifestage data

Eggs laid on flowers. Larva first feed on the flowers and seed pods, later grazing the underside of the leaves, making a number of small holes. Pupates attached to a stem by a silken girdle.
