Resident. Local and scattered distribution, found in the southern counties of England and Wales, also in northern Scotland.

Montgomeryshire Status

First recorded in 2010 at Commins Coch in the west of the county. A new record for north Wales.

Wingspan :   M & F, 19-29mm.

Fairly distinctive.
Flight time & Voltinity (Bivoltine.)

Habitat

Marshy and wet places.

Foodplant

Marsh ragwort.

Lifestage data

Spinning/stem miner. Eggs laid on foodplant. Larva feeds in spun top shoots and later mines a stem. Pupates in the stem.
