First recorded in the west of the county at Commins Coch in 2011.

Wingspan :   M & F, 16-24mm.

Confusion species

It's orange head makes this species fairly distinctive.

Habitat

Wherever bee hives are found.

Foodplant

Wax, dried fruit and insects.

Lifestage data

Eggs laid on food source. The larva feeds on old wax in a beehive. Pupates in a white silken cocoon.
