Resident. Widely distributed and generally common throughout the British Isles, more uncommon in the north.

Found at a few sites scattered across the county.

Wingspan :   M & F, 13-17mm.

Woodland and parkland.


Oak and sweet chestnut.

Lifestage data

Nut feeder. Eggs laid along the leaf veins. Larva lives in the nut eating out the kernel. Pupates in a tough silken cocoon in rotten wood, under moss or bark on a tree.
