Resident. Widespread throughout Britain as far north as Dunbartonshire. More common in southern England.

Found at a few scattered site throughout the county.

Wingspan :   M & F, 11-14mm.

G. sociana.
Flight time & Voltinity (Univoltine)


Open woodland.


Many broadleaf trees.

Lifestage data

Spinning. Eggs laid on twigs of foodplant. Larva first feeds on shoots and buds, later it spins leaves together and feeds within. Pupates in larval habitation or in a silken cocoon on the soil.
