Resident. Widespread and locally common throughout the British Isles as far north as Ross and Cromerty.

Rarely recorded from eastern side of county only.

Wherever foodplant is found.

Elm.

Lifestage data

Spinning. Eggs laid on foodplant. Larva first feeds in a developing bud and later in a spun shoot, spinning two leaves one above the other. Pupates spun up in a silken cocoon in litter on the ground.
