UK Status

Resident. Locally common in the south of England, less common further north and in Wales.

Montgomeryshire Status

First recorded in 1943 at The Breidden in the far north of the county. In 2014 this is still the only record for north Wales.

Wingspan :   M & F 12-15mm.

Flight time & Voltinity (Univoltine)

Habitat

Hedgerows, gardens and scrub.

Foodplant

Hawthorn, blackthorn and occasionally apple.

Lifestage data

Spinning. Eggs laid on foodplant. Larva lives and feeds in spun shoots. Pupates in larval habitation.
