Resident. A common and widespread species found throughout Britain.

Montgomeryshire Status

First recorded in 2012 at Llanymynech Rocks in the north-east of the county.

Wingspan :   M & F 15-20mm.

Confusion species

C. dubitana, C. hybridella and Eupoecilia angustana.
Flight time & Voltinity (Bivoltine)


Habitat

Rough grassland, field margins, waste ground and coastal areas.

Foodplant

Ragwort.

Lifestage data

Stem miner. Eggs laid on foodplant. 1st generation larva burrow into stem causing it to thicken. 2nd generation feed on lower part of stem & rootstock. Pupates in cocoon in larval habitation.
