Resident. Widespread but local throughout the British Isles as far north as south-west Scotland.

Montgomeryshire Status

First confirmed county record was in 2011 at Llanymynech Rocks (pictured below).

Wingspan :   M & F, 12-18mm.

Confusion species

A. cnicana, A. rubigana and Stenodes straminea.
Flight time & Voltinity (Univoltine)


Habitat

Wherever foodplant is found.

Foodplant

Knapweed spp. and yarrow seeds.

Lifestage data

Eggs laid on foodplant. Larva lives and feeds within the flowerhead or seedhead. Pupates in a silken cocoon spun in debris on the ground.
