Resident. Widespread and common throughout Britain as far north as Aberdeenshire.

Montgomeryshire Status

Recorded from two sites in the eastern side of the county at Welshpool and Llanfyllin.

Wingspan :   M & F, 14-15mm.

Wherever foodplant is found.

Foodplant

White poplar, aspen, white & goat willow

Lifestage data

Catkin feeder/bud miner. Eggs probably laid on twig. Larva feed on female catkins (when catkins in short supply they mine buds). Pupates in narrow cocoon covered with lichen particles.
