Resident. Widespread in England and Wales, locally fairly common.

Montgomeryshire Status

First discovered in the north of the county at Llanfyllin in 2011.

Wingspan :   M & F, 10-14mm.

Confusion species

Caryocolum alsinella, Caryocolum fraternella.
Flight time & Voltinity (Univoltine)

Habitat

Grassland, open woodland & hedgerows.

Foodplant

Red & white campion & sticky catchfly.

Lifestage data

Spinning. Eggs laid on foodplant. Larva feed on young shoots & leaves which become contorted, outer leaves are spun together, feeds within. Pupates in a slight cocoon in debris on ground.
