Resident. Found throughout central and eastern England and south-eastern Scotland and other scattered locations in Britain.
One very old record from the north-east of the county at Llanymynech Hill in 1930.
Wingspan : M & F, 8-9mm.
It is often impossible to separate the adults of some species. In some cases differences can be seen in various life stages.

Grassland and meadows.
Leaf miner. Eggs laid on the leaf tip. Larva first forms narrow gallery, subsequent galleries are wider with a violet reflection. Pupates among the debris at the bottom of the foodplant.
