Resident. Locally common, found throughout England and Wales, being more scarce in the north.

Montgomeryshire Status

Recorded from a few sites in the north of the county.

Wingspan :   M & F, 10.5-13mm.

Confusion species

It is often impossible to separate the adults of some species. In some cases differences can be seen in various life stages.

Habitat

A wide range of habitats.

Foodplant

Ribbed melilot and tall melilot.

Lifestage data

Case-bearing/seed miner. Eggs laid on flower. Larva first eats out seeds, then forms a case from seed membrane. This is done with a series of individual seeds. Pupates within case, attached to the ground.
