Resident. Widespread and fairly common throughout much of the British Isles.

Montgomeryshire Status

First recorded in 1990 at Dolfach in the west of the county. As of 2014 there are only two records in north Wales.

Wingspan :   M & F 8-12mm.

Confusion species

Care should be taken as other species of Coleophora can look very similar.

Habitat

Woodland with hazel and heaths with mature birch.

Foodplant

Hazel, birch and hornbeam.

Lifestage data

Leaf miner. Eggs laid on underside of leaf. Larva forms a case feeding on underside of leaf. Pupates in case attached to leaf.
