UK Status

Resident. Widespread and fairly common throughout the British Isles as far north as Perthshire and the Western Isles in Scotland.

Montgomeryshire Status

First recorded in 2010 at Llanfyllin in the north of the county. Very scarce in north Wales, this was only the third record.

Wingspan :   M & F, 10-12mm.

Confusion species

A. sorbiella.

Habitat

Wherever foodplant is found.

Foodplant

Malus spp.

Lifestage data

Eggs laid on the bark of foodplant. Larva overwinters in the egg, when hatches feeds on flowering shoots. Pupates in a loose cocoon amongst the leaves.
