Resident. Widespread but local throughout the British Isles.

Montgomeryshire Status

Known from three very old records taken at Welshpool, the last in 1967.

Wingspan :   M & F, 11-15mm.

Confusion species

Care should be taken, very similar to other species of Glyphipterix.

Habitat

Bogs.

Foodplant

Seeds of cotton-grass.

Lifestage data

Eggs laid on the seed-head. Larva feeds throughout the winter within the seed-head which are spun to the plant so they aren’t blown off. Pupates in a flimsy cocoon spun in the seed-head.
