Resident. Widespread and common throughout much of the British Isles.

Montgomeryshire Status

First recorded at the Breidden in the north of the Montgomeryshire.

Wingspan :   M & F 7-9mm.

Confusion species

Many species in this group are very similar. One of the best ways of separating them is to examine the type of leaf-mine.

Habitat

Wet and damp places.

Foodplant

Sallow, usually goat willow.

Lifestage data

Leaf miner. Eggs laid on underside of leaf. Larva forms large gallery between two veins. Pupates in a brown cocoon in mine.
