UK Status Resident. Widespread and locally common as far north as the Lake District Montgomeryshire Status Infrequently recorded from the western side of the county. Wingspan : M & F, 5-7mm. Confusion species Care should be taken, other species of Heliozela are very similar. |
Flight time & Voltinity
(Univoltine)  Habitat Wherever the foodplant is found. Foodplant Birch. Lifestage data Stem/Leaf miner/Case bearing. Eggs laid under the bark of twigs. Larva mines stem, then enters the lmidrib of leaf where it builds a case, this is carried to ground where it is attached. Pupa formed inside case. |
