Resident. Widespread and locally common through Britain as far north as Perthshire.

Montgomeryshire Status

Two records from the west of the county, the last time from Lake Vyrnwy in 2007.

Wingspan :   M & F, 5-7mm.

Confusion species

Care should be taken, other species of Heliozela are very similar.
Flight time & Voltinity (Univoltine?)


Wherever the foodplant is found.



Lifestage data

Leaf miner. Eggs laid on young leaves. Larva mines from midrib and along a lateral rib, finally a broad gallery from which it builds a case, this is carried to the ground where it is attached. Pupa formed inside case.
