Resident. Local in England and Wales and the east of Scotland.

Montgomeryshire Status

A few scattered records on the western side of the county.

Wingspan :   M & F, 5mm.

Confusion species

Many species of Ectoedemia are similar. A good way of separating them is to examine the type of leaf-mine in the foodplant.

Many habitats with birch.

Foodplant

Birch.

Lifestage data

Leaf miner. Eggs laid on underside of leaf. Larva forms a contorted gallery which then goes into a blotch. Pupa formed in a cocoon beneath the soil. (Mines of some species are similar, care is required with identification).
