A rare and local species that has been recorded just twice in the county, both from the same site at Guilsfield in 2005.

Wingspan :  M & F, 27-33mm.

Confusion species

White-mantled Wainscot, Webb's Wainscot, Twin-spotted Wainscot, Silky Wainscot and Fenn's Wainscot.

Habitat

Reedbeds and ditches, occasionally gardens.

Foodplant

Common reed.

Lifestage data

Overwinters as an egg. Larva April-early July, feeding inside stems. Pupates in the dead stem a few centimetres from the ground.
