An uncommon species that has been recorded from just a few scattered sites throughout the county.

Wingspan :  M & F, 40-54mm.

Confusion species

Large Wainscot, Webb's Wainscot.


Flight time (Montgomeryshire)

Habitat

Wet and boggy places.

Foodplant

Mainly bulrush, but also found on lesser bulrush.

Lifestage data

Overwinters as an egg. Larva April-early August, feeding at first on the upper parts of the stem and moving down it as it grows. Pupates in the foodplant or a dead stem.
