A rather uncommon species. In recent times all records have come from the north-eastern corner of the county.

Wingspan :  M & F, 30-40mm.

Confusion species

Beaded Chestnut.


Flight time (Montgomeryshire)

Habitat

Broadleaf woodland, heathland, parkland, scrub, moorland, hedgerows, wet places and gardens.

Foodplant

Herbaceous plants.

Lifestage data

Overwinters as an egg. Larva April-early June, feeding at night. Pupates under the soil in a strong cocoon.
