Habitat

Broadleaf woodland, heathland, scrub, moorland, hedgerows and gardens.

Foodplant

Oak, poplars, beech, sallows, heather and herbaceous plants.

Lifestage data

Overwinters as an egg which is laid on the twigs of the foodplant. Larva April-June. Pupates in an underground cocoon.
