Montgomeryshire Status

A 'Nationally Scarce B' species. Recorded throughout, but far more numerous in the western half of the county.

Wingspan :  M & F, 44-52mm.

Confusion species

Clay, Treble Lines.
Flight time (Montgomeryshire)

Habitat

Pasture that adjoins mature woodland. The moth favours gorse, scrub or bracken cover when available.

Foodplant

Common bent and creeping soft-grass below pedunculate oak.

Lifestage data

Overwinters as a small larva amongst the grasses. Larva August-May. Pupates in a cocoon just below the soil.
