Montgomeryshire Status

A local and very uncommon species. Unrecorded throughout most of the county, yet there is a good population in the north of the county at Llanfyllin.

Wingspan :  M & F, 37-42mm.

Confusion species

Beautiful Brocade, Dusky Brocade and the Saxon.

Flight time (Montgomeryshire)


Heaths and heathy commons on calcareous soils and occasionally open woodland.


A range of herbaceous and woody plants.

Lifestage data

Overwinters as a pupa underground. Larva late June-August, feeds at night.
