A fairly uncommon species, but it has been quite well recorded, especially in the eastern half of the county.

Wingspan :  M & F, 35-39mm.

Red Chestnut.

Habitat

Open broadleaved woodland, scrub, hedgerows and gardens.

Foodplant

Foodplant has never been recorded in the wild, but the larvae will accept various herbaceous plants in captivity.

Lifestage data

Overwinters as a pupa underground. Larva May-June.
