Wingspan :  M & F, 32-38mm.

Confusion species

White-marked.
Flight time (Montgomeryshire)

Habitat

Mostly broadleaf woodland and open scrub, but also found in gardens and moorland.

Foodplant

Bedstraws, sallows and bilberry.

Lifestage data

Overwinters as a pupa in a strong cocoon formed in the debris. Larva mid late April-June, feeding at night.
