Wingspan :  M & F, 28-36mm.

Confusion species

Small Square-spot, Purple Clay, Barred Chestnut and Rosy Marsh Moth.
Flight time (Montgomeryshire)

Habitat

Heathland, open moorland and woodland.

Foodplant

Many herbaceous plants and some woody species such as bramble, heathers and sallow.

Lifestage data

Overwinters as a small larva near the soil. Larva August-May, feeding at night. Pupates underground.
