A fairly uncommon species, probably a bit overlooked when recorded with other species of dart.

Wingspan :  M & F, 32-42mm.

Confusion species

Heart and Club, Heart and Dart, Crescent Dart, Pearly Underwing and Great Dart.

Most habitats.

Foodplant

The roots and shoots of a wide range of herbaceous plants.

Lifestage data

Overwinters as a larva. Larva late July-April and occasionally June-August. The larva feed almost entirely underground and are known as 'cutworms'. Pupates underground.
