A very common & sometimes abundant species, which is found more often in lowland sites throughout the county. 

Wingspan :  M & F, 32-40mm.

Confusion species

Common Footman, Buff Footman and Orange Footman.


Flight time (Montgomeryshire)

Habitat

Fens, marshes and other wet places.

Foodplant

Lichens and green algae growing on trees.

Lifestage data

Overwinters as a larva. Larva mid August-late May. Pupates in the plant litter.
