A fairly common species that is overlooked due to its very late/early flight time in the year.

Wingspan :  M, 40-45mm. F, wingless.

Confusion species

Scarce Umber and Dotted Border.


Flight time (Montgomeryshire)

Habitat

Mostly broadleaf woodland, but also found in scrub, heathland, moorland, and gardens.

Foodplant

Many species of broadleaved trees and shrubs.

Lifestage data

Overwinters as an egg on the foodplant. Larva early April-late June.
