Habitat

Rides and open areas of woodland, heathland, moorland and gardens.

Foodplant

Downy birch, silver birch, alder and heather, occasionally other species of broadleaf trees.

Lifestage data

Overwinters as an egg on the bark or a twig of the foodplant. Larva late April-June. Pupates beneath the soil.
