Wingspan :  M & F, 25-34mm.

Confusion species

Satin Lutestring.
Flight time (Montgomeryshire)

Habitat

Light woodland and scrub.

Foodplant

Mainly birch, also found on alder, hazel and oak.

Lifestage data

Larva late July-early October which hide during the day between spun leaves. Overwinters as a pupa in a cocoon formed in the leaves of the foodplant.
