Common and widespread on the western side of the county, less common from the eastern half.

Wingspan :  M & F, 48-72mm.

None.
Flight time (Montgomeryshire)

Habitat

Heathland, moorland, downland, coastal grassland, sand-dunes, meadows and open woodland.

Foodplant

Heathers, willows, creeping bilberry, bramble and meadowsweet.

Lifestage data

Overwinters as full grown larva. Larva Jun-Apr, feed until Sept. Pupates in cocoon near ground.
