A fairly common species, throughout the county.

Wingspan :  M & F, 32-50mm.

Confusion species

Orange Swift.
Flight time (Montgomeryshire)

Habitat

Often found in gardens, downland, open grassland, woodland rides and other grassy places.

Foodplant

Bracken roots are main foodplant but probably also feeds on roots of grasses and broadleaved herbs.

Lifestage data

Overwinters twice as a larva then pupates underground. Larva July-May.
